4 Ways to Keep High Porosity Hair Moisturized

Lifeless and frizzy are the main problems of women having high porosity hair. According to the hair stylist and the Director of Education at Design Essentials, Alicia Bailey, moisture is not easily retained in high porosity hair. Therefore, you need to keep the hair moisturized always to make it manageable. However, following a high porosity hair regimen can help to lock in the moisture.

So, without further ado, let’s jump into learning about how to keep high porosity hair moisturized.

Keep High Porosity Hair Moisturized

1. Go for a Protein Treatment

A protein treatment is extremely beneficial for high porosity hair. It bridges the gap in your hair cuticles. Moreover, it creates a barrier to the curls, sealing in the moisture. Consequently, your hair grows stronger and doesn’t fall off easily.

If you have high porosity hair due to the excessive use of heat, practice a protein treatment once in a month.

2. Use Shampoos and Conditioners Having Butter and Oils

Toss out all the products containing sulfate. Rather, swipe in shampoos and conditioners rich in oils and butter. Especially shea butter. Butter and oils restore moisture and prevent your hair from becoming frizzy.

Jojoba oil closely resembles the natural oil of hair. That being said, look for hair care products having jojoba oil. You can also apply olive oil to moisturize your hair. Olive oil can easily penetrate into the hair shaft, which makes it works as a great sealant.

Make sure to go through the ingredients carefully before buying your hair care products.

3. Try Aloe Vera and Apple Cider Vinegar

Aloe vera has gained popularity in treating dry hair. Due to its moisturizing properties, women having highly porous hair can use it. Similarly, apple cider vinegar balances the pH level of hair. The use of apple cider vinegar will also flatten the cuticles, retaining moisture.

How to Use?

Mix 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel with ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply this mask on your scalp. Wait for half an hour. Use a regular shampoo to wash off thoroughly.

Do it once a week for optimum results.

4. Deep Conditioning for High Porosity Hair

Deep conditioning is a must after every wash. Never skip this.

As already said, high porosity hair needs moisture to stay healthy. Deep conditioning goes a step forward to keep the hair moisturized. Look for deep conditioners having heavier oils and not humectants.

Some other ingredients you should also look for are:

  • Hemp oil

  • Stearyl alcohol

  • Cetyl alcohol

  • Cetearyl alcohol

Go for deep conditioning a week before the protein treatment. You can leave your deep conditioner overnight or for a few hours, depending upon your hair requirement. Once applied, cover your hair with a plastic cap.

Pro Tip: Also, reduce the use of heat on your hair. Excessive application of styling tools like heat makes the hair rough and dry.

Conclusion

Compared to other hair porosity types, high porosity hair needs extra care. Aim to seal in the moisture for the lost sheen. All the above said moisturizing tips must be followed regularly. Within 2-3 months, you’ll find that your curls have become tamable and shiny.
